A Brief Introduction Blog About Myself

Hi everyone,

My name is Jacob and this is my first time taking a course of curriculum and instruction at UVic. I am a 3rd year computer science student and interested in game design. Although video games gain a lot of popularity in recent years, not many people understand how are video games designed. In summary, a game design team (there are also indie game designers who are in charge of designing the entire game) will come up with an idea of how players would interact or “play” with the systems, such as pressing a specific button to move or jump, what feedbacks will players receive from their interactions, what interactions are permitted in the system, and how to help players adapt to the system as efficiently as possible. The most difficult parts are to create an ideal and innovative method to train players, which players acquire positive feedbacks from completing a set of training tasks. I believe this is similar to teaching or design an interactive course. Instructors create a clear outline of what knowledge should student gain at the end of the course, and instructors hands out projects, assignments or tests to help students strengthen their understanding of the knowledge. Additionally, what I will learn from the course benefits my part-time tutoring job. This is an opportunity for me to recognize my weakness in tutoring.

Last term, I took a graphic design course which is related to game design. I found the course both challenging and fascinating. It requires sufficient knowledge of math and programming, but I am glad that I finished the course with some decent accomplishments. Here is a spinning bunny in graphics interchange format (GIF).
